About the Club

Cranleigh is between Guildford and Horsham on the B2128 (see Map)
Our running club is a very sociable group and all newcomers are welcome. From October 2010 we are based at
Cranleigh Cricket Club, The Common, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 8NS.

(if coming from Guildford, the Cranleigh Cricket Club is on the left opposite the Cranley Hotel).

Our annual membership is usually in the region of 65 people, with typical running groups of around 25 during the summer runs. Our members are of varying age and ability from top club standard right down to joggers. So regardless of your age or fitness, there will be a group to suit you. Apart from winter-time street runs our training is mostly cross-country within a radius of ten miles from Cranleigh. Throughout the year we have a number of social events allowing us to explore the local restaurants and pubs.

During summer 2010 we formed an alliance with the Cranleigh Sunflowers Ladies Running Club A local club established by ladies for like minded ladies who wish to run together and use  their spare time to develop their fitness. No previous running experience necessary - just determination and chat. Sunflowers are welcomed into the Tortoise and Hare.

Training Sessions
We run/jog every Tuesday and Thursday evening followed by a drink in the welcoming clubhouse. We also meet for a training run on Sunday mornings outside Cranleigh Leisure Centre ( Village Way ).

  • Tuesday Evening at 7:30 pm meeting in the Cranleigh Cricket Club car park (Trainer Led)
  • Thursday Evening at 7:30 pm meeting in the Cranleigh Cricket Club car park
  • Sunday mornings 08:00 am meeting outside the Cranleigh Leisure Centre

Depending on numbers there is usually a fast, a medium and a slow running group. The mid week sessions are off road in British Summer Time and around the streets of Cranleigh in winter. These sessions last for about one hour and comprise intervals, fartleks, tempo-runs, hill work or just running for the sheer exhilaration. On Sundays we typically have 2 types of runs happening. One run where the emphasis is on a slower, longer run of between 90 minutes to 2 hours taking in some of the most stunning countryside and hills in the area. The second run is about Marathon Training and distance which takes place during most of the year. Both runs depart from the Leisure Centre at 8am on Sundays. Keep an eye on the calendar for changes.

Members are encouraged to compete in the monthly MABAC league races, offering a 5 mile, off road, hilly course with all finishers winning points for the club. A number of members do a variety of other events such as:

  • Hash runs and Pub runs
  • 10K's
  • Half Marathons & Marathons
  • Ultra Distance & Trail runs
  • Charity runs
  • Triathlon
  • Long distance walking
  • Orienteering

Why not come along on a Tuesday or Thursday evening and try us out?
